Bringing Teams Together in a Covid World

Bringing Teams Together in a Covid World

Check out this article written by ASI CEO Patrick Molloy featured in Business trend all about bringing teams together in a Covid world!

“In Chattanooga, as vaccines roll out and our public health emergency starts to feel manageable, how are companies planning to bring their employees back together? Many employees have been working remotely for over a year.  Others have been on the front lines facing nervous customers in masks.  How do managers get their employees functioning as a team again, and is it worth considering the value of incorporating well-managed fun into a company’s “back-to-the-office” strategy.

Here at Adventure Sports Innovation, like many local providers of group activities, we’re preparing for the return of corporate team building and team development events, and we’re anticipating that many organizations are going to look for novel ways to ease the transition back to working in person. The challenge of course, is finding ways to encourage fun and connection without encouraging risk.

At ASI we do think it’s possible and we do think it’s worth it. We’ve always built our events around getting outdoors and trying new things, so we’ve always had to spend considerable time thinking about safety and risk management. We equip all of our guests with helmets and other appropriate safety gear, and all of our group excursions, virtual or otherwise, are guided by professionals. None of this prepared us for pandemic risk management, but we were luckier than most, and we found that many of our adventures were easily adjusted to keep people safe and happy. Cleaning happens constantly – of course – and we’ve adjusted policies to allow smaller groups to reserve exclusive access to our facilities for events. However, for larger groups – even as many as 30 participants – we’ve been able to leverage our location on the North Shore to develop new activities that take advantage of the beautiful outdoor spaces along the riverfront.

We have already held our first few small team events of the year and, so far, our system is working well. In fact, the reviews for group events this year have been even better than back in 2019 and early 2020, as everyone is excited to be together again.  Collaborating on topics like “Innovating within your company”, “Overcoming Fears to Success” or “Overcoming Unconscious Bias”, and then playing together for a couple of hours on Little Vehicles around town, VR Simulators, or on our unique Swincar electric off-roaders, seems to be the ice breaker and stress reliever that teams hard-wired throughout the pandemic really need.

Between the safety of our clients and our own concerns for the safety of our facilitators, there’s a lot to consider, but we’ve found that activities as simple as riding electric scooters, e-bikes and mini-Segways together on the Riverwalk can be a great way to remind people that it’s kind of nice to see their team every day. Plus, while under normal circumstances it’s difficult to both bond and be socially distant, we’ve found that riding Little Vehicles together has been a notable exception.

We see the benefits of making something that’s “not-so-normal”, become a part of a company’s “return to normal.” Will the market see it that way? Who knows. But if it does, we’ll be ready for it.”

Summer is Almost Here!

Summer is Almost Here!

Tennessee summer heat is right around the corner, so you know what that means… It’s time to start cashing in on all those adventures that we’ve been putting off and dreaming about since last summer! Luckily, as of last week our water activities are officially open for the 2021 season! Keep an eye out for our Lift eFoil Surfboard and Pontoon bikes on the Tennessee River right under Walnut Bridge, and come join us when you’re ready to beat the heat.

Hydrofoiling is our favorite watersport these days – either on a tow-behind model or especially on our electric powered eFoil board.  ASI is an authorized Lift Affiliate, and we offer training and coaching sessions either from our NorthShore Chattanooga location on the river, or as a private excursion on your boat! check our website for more detailed descriptions and call us to book your test drive session!  We offer expert coaching sessions for riders, and local sales support for those ready to get their own equipment.

Unlike previous seasons, we will not be offering excursions on our Kymera e-Jet Bodyboards. The boards have been great, and our guests have loved them, but since Innovation is part of our name, we’re always looking to upgrade to the next great tech products for outdoor adventures. That being said, our Kymera boards are for sale! They were refurbished over the winter and are substantially discounted from their original price.  Give us a call or swing by for more information!

Spring is Adventure Season

Spring is Adventure Season

We’re so grateful to all of our customers who were able to visit us during the last year, despite pandemic concerns – thanks for your support and encouragement! ASI is still here providing adventures with cool technology, and working to fulfill our mission to introduce our community to clean technology for outdoor adventures.  We know that Spring is adventure season, and if you haven’t been out to play for a while here’s a quick recap of some new adventures:

  • ChattaScooters are now a thing – we have three locations where guests can rent scooters around town!
  • Our Little Vehicle fleet continues to expand, with some interesting new options for personal mobility, and our guided tours are growing in popularity.
  • Off-road boarding is growing in popularity, due to extremely capable devices now on the market like our Evolve GTR electric Longboards.  Come take a demo ride!

Our Swincar electric off-roaders are becoming more and more popular.  If you haven’t tried our backcountry tour yet, now is the perfect time – not too cold, not too hot, and the trails are fast and dry.  If you loved your Swincar Backcountry Tour with ASI, we plan to soon offer a second location near Chattanooga with an even more adventurous ride for repeat guests!

If you really loved your tour, you might have wondered how to go about getting your hands on your very own Swincar. Well look no further, because the Swincar USA website is now live!  This is going to be your one-stop shop for all the information you need to make an informed decision about whether or not a Swincar is right for you. You’ll be able to compare models, check all the specs, see options and accessories, find pricing and purchase details, and find the closest dealer/test drive or service location.  We’re just getting started on expansion, and can’t wait to have even more Swincar touring fleets and private owners popping up around the country.

We’re also delighted to see small group events re-starting!  Spring is adventure season, and team building events, birthday celebrations or family reunion activities have been starting to reappear this spring, and we expect to see lots over the summer.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Enjoy the Adventure…

Try before you buy: From banjos to kayaks to chickens, here are five things you didn’t know you could rent in Chattanooga

Swincar

If you’ve ever planned a wedding, gone to prom or wowed the guests at a children’s birthday party, you’re probably aware of the abundance of items you can rent to make an event a success — everything from tables and chairs to tuxes and limos to bouncy houses and petting zoos.

But that’s not all you can rent in Chattanooga. With the coronavirus still whittling large gatherings off our social calendars, we went in search of some short-term rentals that can entertain us during isolation. These adopt-a-hobbies are ideal for no-guilt trial runs to see if your new pursuits have long-term potential.

Here are five ideas for rentable activities that can keep you occupied at home during your downtime or that you can enjoy while remaining socially distanced. Suppliers featured here are examples of what you might find. Policies will vary depending on where you shop.

4. Swincars

Here’s a contraption you’ve likely not seen before: the Swincar e-Spider, an electric, four-wheel-drive quadricycle resembling something between a dune buggy and a Model T. Easily able to navigate all kinds of terrain, the Swincar matches its extreme off-road capabilities with a light environmental impact and silent operation.

In Chattanooga, the Swincar is available at Adventure Sports Innovation on River Street, a company that specializes in high-tech outdoor experiences. When you book an outing, ASI will deliver your Swincar to Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center for a 60- or 90-minute tour within the 317-acre property.

Mark McKnight, president and CEO at Reflection Riding, says ASI’s CEOs and co-founders Carolina Eiris Molloy and Patrick J. Molloy reached out to him in 2018 with the “idea of letting people try out these crazy toys you might see on YouTube but never run into in day-to-day life.”

The buggies are ideal for exploring the 15 miles of trails at Reflection Riding, says McKnight.

“They allow you to see a lot more of the terrain and easily move across the terrain, especially as a way for people with disabilities to get out onto the trails,” he says. “They’re really low-impact — not like a four-wheeler where you’re tearing up the trails. They’re very low-impact and very quiet.”

Rental fees range from $109 to $250, which includes a $10 donation to Reflection Riding.

Other rentals available through ASI are electric bikes and scooters, hoverboards, hovershoes, Segways, electric unicycles and water bikes.

ChattaScooter, An Eco-Friendly, Fun Way to Get Around, Expands to Include Southside , Chattanooga Trend, Jan 21 2021 by Natalia Perez

ChattaScooter, An Eco-Friendly, Fun Way to Get Around, Expands to Include Southside , Chattanooga Trend, Jan 21 2021 by Natalia Perez

Adventure Sports Innovation (ASI) has launched ChattaScooter, a new personal mobility program offering a safe and convenient way for most adults to rent an e-scooter. Perfect for visitors looking to explore the city, or for residents looking for a fun outing in the Scenic City, the ChattaScooter program provides a fun and eco-friendly way to get around.

Private on-demand scooter rentals are now available in Chattanooga, with three locations for pickup and drop-off, including ASI, One Riverside Apartments and The Local Juicery and Kitchen.

“The plan is that our next locations would be more apartment complexes, hotels and a few businesses or shopping plazas,” says Carolina Molloy, co-owner of ASI. “We will be looking to establish pickup/drop-off locations where people live, shop and play, in downtown, West Village, UTC campus, Riverfront Northshore and perhaps out by Saint Elmo.”

Pricing for the stand-up, electric scooters is $24 per hour, or $0.40 per minute, charged by the minute via the phone app from Levy, Inc. Riders need to be at least 16 years old and must own a smartphone and debit/credit card.

For rider safety during COVID, scooters and helmets are sanitized after each rental.

“We started ChattaScooter at our storefront on the Northshore to see if there was demand, and to test our model and software with very little advertising. Last fall, we added two locations to test how that would work, and we’re working to expand our fleet and partner locations by March when the weather warms up.”

Not Your Typical Scooter Program

Last year in February, the City Council indefinitely banned controversial dockless electric scooter companies from coming to Chattanooga after some expressed concerns with dumped and junked vehicles, speeding drivers and increased accidents.

The ChattaScooter program meets existing guidelines, and it differs from other stand-up scooters in that scooters can only be rented and dropped off at the aforementioned three locations. To ensure that scooters aren’t abandoned, the renter’s credit card continues to be charged until the vehicle is returned correctly, taking charges up to $1,000.

“ChattaScooter aims to fill a transportation need in the Chattanooga metro area,” says Patrick Molloy, Adventure Sports Innovation’s CEO. “We offer easy access to cool transportation devices, and the program addresses the safety concerns and haphazard parking that often occur with ‘dockless’ scooters programs”.

Luis Contreras, Team Leader at the Local Juicery and Kitchen, who recently signed up to become part of the program, says: “We definitely see the growing demand for more choices in transportation around the city, and are excited to offer this convenience for both residents and visitors to our city”.
