Adventure Sports Innovation 

Carolina Molloy, co-owner of Adventure Sports Innovation, entered the adventure tourism industry in 2018. Molloy and her husband founded their business out of a mutual love for outdoor adventure.  

Once they had settled upon adventure tourism as their chosen industry, the couple’s next step was to choose the best location for bringing their dream to life. Chattanooga emerged as their perfect crossroads for outdoor adventure, innovation and a local entrepreneurial ecosystem – a dramatic shift from the Manhattan lifestyle she and her husband previously experienced. 

“Patrick had visited Chattanooga several times to go whitewater rafting. The company’s flagship offering, accounting for 60% of their profit, is the Swincar E-Spider, an all-terrain electric vehicle that relies on pendulum technology to make for a smoother off-road ride. Adventure Sports Innovation is the only Swincar dealer in the United States and supports several businesses around the country by offering test drives. 

Company values include safe fun, inclusion and respect for the natural environment. Helmets are required during use of electric-powered equipment and to protect everyone, age restrictions apply: “If you see people around town with either bright yellow or red helmets, that’s us,” Malloy says. 

Swincar tours are also offered at the Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center, giving those with limited mobility the chance to see parts of the nature preserve they otherwise couldn’t access. To be respectful of the environment and others there to enjoy nature, Malloy’s vehicles are the only type permitted for off-roading at Reflection Riding because they’re quieter and more eco-friendly. 

With bookings for corporate teambuilding and birthday parties slowly coming back post-pandemic, Adventure Sports Innovation has had to make a few product pivots. They entered into an e-scooter rental program available through the ChattaScooter app. They also began using Airbnb and Trip Advisor for bookings, which enabled them to earn Trip Advisor’s 2022 Traveler’s Choice Award. 

While customers participate in outdoor adventures year-round, Adventure Sports Innovation’s virtual experiences can provide a change of scenery without having to leave the city. Whether it’s hang-gliding over scenic landscapes or riding loop-de-loops on their custom-designed finger coaster, Molloy has witnessed her customers experience some of life’s happiest and most exhilarating moments.

Calling all nature lovers:  Natural attractions make the Greater Chattanooga region an outdoor recreation playground. 

As an angler with the Bassmaster Elite Series, Buddy Gross has spent time fishing in some of the most picturesque locations across the country. But he has yet to discover a place where the outdoors are as great as his native Greater Chattanooga region.

“I’ve traveled a lot, and I’ve never found anything quite as beautiful as the Chattanooga area,” Gross says. “We have mountains and rivers and lots of really clean water. This is one of the best places to be outdoors.”

Others agree. Chattanooga is the only two-time winner of Outside magazine’s Best Towns contest, and Lonely Planet dubbed the region the “Best in the U.S.” for outdoor activities. And why not? Nestled between the Appalachian Mountains and the Tennessee River, there are outdoor recreation opportunities in all directions, with spectacular spots for hiking, biking, climbing and all sorts of watersports.

“It’s called ‘The Scenic City’ for a reason,” says Patrick Molloy, Adventure Sports Innovation CEO, referring to Chattanooga’s official nickname. “If you’re into hiking or climbing or any kind of exploring, there are tons of places to visit. Really, if you like doing almost anything outdoors, you’ll find something you enjoy in Chattanooga.”

Start with the Parks

Major parks and natural areas can be found throughout Greater Chattanooga. These include Prentice Cooper State Forest (located in the Tennessee River Gorge), Cloudland Canyon State Park (featuring deep canyons, sandstone cliffs and waterfalls), Booker T. Washington State Park and Harrison Bay State Park (both situated on the shores of Chickamauga Lake) and Laurel Snow State Natural Area (which contains a segment of the Cumberland Trail, Tennessee’s only linear state park).

Also in the area are Hiwassee/Ocoee Scenic River State Park and the numerous surrounding whitewater rafting outfitters, as well Fall Creek Falls State Park with its new $40 million lodge, where every room has a view.

You don’t have to travel far to enjoy Greater Chattanooga’s natural wonders. Nearby greenways and trails are designed specifically for hiking, biking, running and walking. The North and South Chickamauga Creek Greenways provide more than 15 miles of trails outside downtown Chattanooga. Some of the city’s best views can be found at Stringer’s Ridge Park along its 3.3-mile loop trail.

Of course, the most convenient trail of them all cuts right through the heart of the city, as the 16-mile-long Tennessee Riverwalk rolls alongside the Tennessee River, providing a paved pathway past city amenities and outdoor splendor (as well as river access at Coolidge Park).
